Help needed and October events

Dear Brothers and Sisters,
 
We're looking for a member to volunteer to cook for this Friday night, October 11.  What about you?  Can you gather some friends and prepare a simple meal for everyone to enjoy?  Chili, tacos, pasta?  Let a trustee know if you are interested. trusteesfoe871@gmail.com
 
Anniversary/Old Timers Day is Sunday, October 13.  The day starts at 12:00 with a reception. The ceremony begins at 1:00 followed by lunch.  Come and be recognized if your membership anniversary ends in five or zero or applaud your brothers and sisters who have. The State Worthy President and State Madam Auxiliary President will attend.
 
The Rathskeller will have all the football games on our six televisions.  Feel free to bring snacks and cheer on your favorite team.

Help needed this weekend!

Brothers and Sisters,

We currently don’t have enough volunteers for Steak Night or the Bloody Mary Breakfast. If we don't get more people signed up, we’ll have to cancel both events. Please sign up here: VoluntEAGLES: Steak Night - October 4, 2024.

Also, DJ Shafie will be spinning vinyl on Friday night.

October is here! 10/2024

Dear Brothers and Sisters,
 
October is here and we have a full schedule of events for the month.  
 
Friday, October 4, brings back our NY strip steak with baked potato, tossed salad and more for $20.  Enjoy a delicious meal between 5:30-7:30 and give us an hour of your time to set up the food, deliver meals to diners, or clean up.  VoluntEAGLES: Steak Night - October 4, 2024
 
And the best Bloody Mary breakfast in Alexandria can be found at FOE 871 Sunday, October 6, from 9:00-11:00.  Eggs cooked to order, bacon, sausage, pancakes, creamed chipped beef, grits, puffs and more for $15/adults; $5/children.  A menu this big takes a lot of hands.  We need help washing dishes throughout the meal, but especially starting at 10:45.  Let us know when to expect you!  VoluntEAGLES: Bloody Mary Breakfast -- October 6, 2024.

  • Wednesday, October 2, 7:00.  First reading of proposed changes to FOE 871 bylaws and house rules.  Vote to occur Wednesday, November 6, at 7:00.
  • Friday, October 11, 5:30-7:30.  TBD.

Bylaws readings 10/2 to 11/6/2024

Brothers,

We are in the process of updating our By-Laws and House Rules. These updates must be read at three separate general meetings, each starting at 7:00 p.m.

  • The first reading will take place on October 2nd, and there will be no discussion.
  • The second reading will be on October 16th, again with no discussion.
  • The third and final reading will occur on November 6th. At this meeting, we will have a discussion followed by a vote on the proposed changes.

Please note, the By-Laws and House Rules will not be distributed via email, posted on the website, or displayed on the bulletin board. You must attend the meetings to learn about the proposed changes.

Chicken and Wings 9/27/2024

Dear Brothers and Sisters,
 
The annual picnic last Saturday was a great success.  Thanks to the many members who helped prep the food, load the trucks, set up the tables, and then haul everything back to the Aerie.  Remember that our generous, anonymous brother will donate $500/month to a charity nominated by a volunteer.  Please fill out a slip next time you're in the Rathskeller or send your choice to trusteesfoe871@gmail.com.

So many events!!! September 2024

Brothers and Sisters,
 
 
There is a lot going on at the Aerie this weekend.  In addition to good fun on Friday and Saturday, we are looking for members to bring in food for NFL Sunday football. Come cheer on your favorite team and make your favorite tailgating food to share.  A sign-up sheet is posted at the bar.
 
Come to the Aerie this Friday, September 20, between 5:30-7:30 for grilled pork chops and sides for $15. Sign up for a short shift to help us set up, serve meals, or clean up.  
 
 
Then join us for our annual picnic on Saturday, September 21, from 12:00-5:00 p.m. at Pavilion B of the Fort Hunt Park off of the GW Parkway.  Enjoy hamburgers, hotdogs, potato salad, coleslaw, chips, wine, beer and soft drinks.  Side dishes and desserts are welcomed. Games for adults and children are available, and we will be selling FOE 871 t-shirts.  This event is free to members and $10 for guests.  
NOTE:  The bathrooms are closed for renovation, but portable toilets will be available.  The Aerie will open at 5:00

Food drive has started

We are collecting Non-Perishable Food items from September 18th until October 30th.  There are  boxes located in the Rathskeller.
 
 
Please drop off your donations during that time.

We're serving a delicious New York strip dinner Friday night, September 6, from 5:30-7:30. No Friday dinner 8/30/24

Dear Brothers and Sisters,
 
We will not be serving dinner Friday night at the Aerie.  Please consider offering to cook on a second or fifth Friday of the month when we don't have trustee sponsored meals. It doesn't have to be anything fancy.  Tacos, chili, sloppy joes are all very welcome by our members!

Updating By-laws and House Rules

Brothers,

We are in the process of updating our By-Laws and House Rules.They need to be read at three different General Meetings which start at 7:00 on each of the following dates. 

The first reading will be September 4th.  There will be no discussion about the By-Laws or House Rules. 

Second reading will be September 18th, again no discussion.

Third and final reading will be October 2nd. At this time we will discuss the proposed changes.

Neither the By-Laws nor the House Rules will not be emailed, posted on the website, or bulletin board.

You will need to come to the meeting to know and discuss proposed changes.

Thanks to everyone who came out for last Saturday's Crab Feast.  Over seventy five people enjoyed crabs, hotdogs, hamburgers followed by Brother Shafie's fabulous vinyl records that night..  We're especially grateful to the 19 members (and seven trustees and officers) who helped set up the room, carry crab bushels upstairs, serve food, or clean up. Never was the saying "many hands make light work" more true that on Saturday.

Crab fest! Help Needed

Almost no one has signed up to work at the Crab Feast this Saturday! This is a labor intensive event, and we must have help from the members to pull it together.
 
There are a number of tasks and time slots from 10:00-6:00so you should be able to find something that works for your schedule. Will you please help?

Horseshoe Tourney 8/17/2024

This Saturday, August 17th Winchester will be hosting the 2025 VA State Horseshoe Tournament. GAIG Rock Ruark is looking for a partner. Sign up is from 9:00 to 9:45. Start Time is 10:00. This is a bring your own partner doubles event.
 
Must have your membership card to play.
 
No coolers please as they will have beer and drinks for sale.
 
Lunch will be provided in entry fee. $30.00 per team.

Crab Fest and pork chops

Dear Brothers and Sisters,
 
The crabs are back and they are big and sweet as ever!  Get your fill this Saturday, August 17, from 1:00-:5:00 in the upstairs hall.  Tickets are available for purchase from the bartender for $50 until Friday.  Tickets at the door for crabs are $55; hamburgers and hotdogs only are $10. Continue the fun in the Rathskeller where Brother and DJ Extraordinaire Dana Shafie will be spinning records to dance the night away. Thanks to Grover Gaming for subsidizing this event so we can keep the prices low.
