30th Annual Heart Walk 4/21/2024

Eagle Brothers,

ALVA Aerie and Auxiliary #871 will be having their 30h Annual Heart Walk, honoring Bubba Merker. The date will be April 21, 2024. Bubba Merker was a past president of ALVA Aerie #871. He passed away at a young age of a massive heart attack. Since then we had held this walk to honor him.

As in the past, it is our hope that this one will be our most successful. The walkers leave the Aerie at 9am. The walk covers approximately 5 miles.

Please consider supporting this worthy event. All proceeds go to the Grand Aerie earmarked for the Max Baer Heart Fund.

Upcoming events in February 2024

Dear Brothers and Sisters,
 
Congratulations to our winners in the 2024 Chili Cookoff.  Mickey Hansen took first place, followed by Larry Seyfried in second; and Bruce Baker in third.  Everyone enjoyed great chili provided by 14 competitors.  Thanks to Dean Heyl, John Pann, and Mary Rosado for serving as judges.  
 
More good food follows this weekend.
 
On Friday, February 2, our fabulous steak dinner will be served from 5:30-7:30.  Ribeye steak accompanied by baked potato, tossed salad, and sauteed mushrooms and onions for just $25.  Please give us an hour of your time to make this happen.  VoluntEAGLES: Steak Night - February 2, 2024 (signupgenius.com)

We have two Ladies Auxiliary dinners coming up in March to post: 
  • Friday, March 8th, 2024 - St. Patrick's Day Dinner - Corn Beef & Cabbage 
    The dinner includes Corn Beef, Cabbage, Carrots, Potatoes, Carrots, Corn Muffins and Dessert.
    Time: 5:30-7:30pm 
    Cost: $20.00
     
  • Friday, March 29th, 2024 - Pasta Night DinnerChoose between either of the following entrees:
  • Spaghetti Pasta Bolognese or Penne Pasta with Chicken Alfredo and includes: Salad, Garlic Bread, Broccoli and Dessert (1 large cookie).
Time: 5:30-7:30pm

Shrimp & Wings 1/26 and Chili Cook Off 1/28

Dear Brothers and Sisters,

 
Tired of the snow?  Warm up at the Rathskeller this weekend with a lot of good food.
 
On Friday, January 26, we are serving shrimp and chicken wings with coleslaw and corn from 5:30-7:30.  Prices range from $10-$15 depending on your order.  The Ladies Auxiliary will provide desserts.  Come help us set up, serve diners, or clean up. And the Annual Chili Cookoff returns on Sunday, January 28.  Fifteen chefs will compete for three prizes, including the coveted chili necklace.  Judging begins at 2:00; afterwards members are invited to eat a bowl of chili for themselves for a $5 fee.
 
If you are interested in entering the contest, sign up at the Rathskeller and read all the rules.  You must bring your chili to the Aerie by 1:45in your own crock pot.  We don't have the facilities to reheat, so bring it hot.

Home Key Ceremony 1/20/2024

Homes For Our Troops - Building Homes, Rebuilding Lives. Our Mission: To build and donate specially adapted custom homes nationwide for severely injured post-9/11 Veterans, to enable them to rebuild their lives.

Please join us as we present Marine Cpl Kevork Khachadurian with the keys to his new, specially adapted custom home in Fort Washington, MD.

Date: Saturday, January 20th, 2024
Time: Check in begins at 9:30 a.m., Ceremony from 10:00 a.m. to 12 p.m.
Location: 10714 Riverview Road, Fort Washington, MD 20744

This event will be hosted outdoors under a tent (rain or shine), please dress accordingly. Join us after the ribbon cutting for light refreshments and an opportunity to tour the home.

Friday, January 5, is our first steak dinner of the new year.  Enjoy a 14-ounce ribeye steak, baked potato, salad, and sauteed mushrooms and onions from 5:30-7:30 for $25.  Follow this link to sign up for a one-hour shift to help set up, serve meals, or clean up.
