December 2023 Events - Quick List

Fellow Eagles, 

Here is a quick rollup of events coming in December 2023 - More information coming as these dates get closer. 

  • December 1, 5:30-7:30.  Steak night
  • December 2, 11:00, Scottish Walk Parade.  ALVA Aerie 871, once again, will be marching in the annual parade.  Meet at the Rathskeller at 10:00; the parade starts at 11:00.
  • December 2, 5:00-7:00.  Reception honoring our Brother Rock Ruark, who was elected as Outside Guard of the Grand Aerie.  Refreshments and beverages will be provided
  • December 3, 9:00-11:00, Bloody Mary Breakfast
  • December 8.  Last day to donate new, unwrapped toys to Rathskeller for Toys 4 Tots.
  • December 15, 5:30-7:30, Steak Night
  • December 16, 5:30.  FOE 871 Christmas Party

Up coming events Nov 17-24, 2023

Dear Brothers and Sisters,
 
We have a lot of activities coming up in the next two weeks. Please join us for as many as possible and click on the links provided to sign up for a one-hour shift to help us set up, serve and clean up meals.  We depend on members to make these events possible.
 
1)  This Friday, November 17, we are serving our fabulous ribeye steak dinner from 5:30-7:30.  Enjoy a 14-ounce ribeye with baked potato, tossed salad, and sauteed mushrooms and onions for just $25.  VoluntEAGLES: Steak Night - November 17, 2023 (signupgenius.com)
 
2)  Come back on Saturday, November 18, from 8:00-12:00for Fall Volunteer Day.  We will clean the parking lot and Rathskeller and make other needed repairs to our Aerie.  Lunch will be provided for all volunteers.
 
3)  The Aerie will open at 4:00 on Thanksgiving Day, November 23.  Burn off all those calories cheering on your favorite football team and socializing with your brothers and sisters.
 
4)  Finally, there is our shrimp and chicken dinner on Friday, November 24, from 5:30-7:30.  Order chicken wings and/or boiled or fried shrimp along with coleslaw and corn.

Help needed!!

Please find the Invitation to our 2021-2022 State Charity Recipient's Landscaping Event.
 
It is scheduled for 18 November 2023, and some of us will be attending the Mid-Atlantic Conference that weekend, however, many will not be.
 
 
Please disseminate this invitation to your members in hopes that someone will be available and want to participate that day. they are asking for an RSVP so they know how many they will need to feed.

Early November Happenings

Dear Brothers and Sisters,
 
What goes well with leftover Halloween candy?  Ribeye steak!  Join us at the Aerie this Friday between 5:30-7:30 for our famous ribeye steak dinner complete with baked potato, tossed salad, and sauteed mushrooms and onions.  Just $25.

Delayed Opening 10/30/2023

Monday October 30th, Dominion Energy will be cutting off service from 9:30am to 1:00 PM to do some electrical work. We will  open at 1:00 PM on that day.
 
Just in case you are wondering, yes I paid the bill.

This Friday, October 20, is another steak night.  Join us from 5:30-7:30 for a 14-ounce ribeye steak cooked to order with baked potato, salad, and more for just $25.
 
For those who like to plan ahead, we will be serving shrimp and chicken wings on Friday, October 27.  Order shrimp -- spiced or fried -- and/or wings along with corn and coleslaw.

Old Timer Thanks!

Dear Brothers and Sisters,
 
Congratulations to all the brothers and sisters who received pins last Sunday for years of service from five to sixty years.  We had a great event with the State Worthy and Madam Presidents in attendance and a delicious lunch catered by Northside.  Thanks to everyone who helped set up the hall and clean up afterwards.

Fish Fry and Old Timer Recognition

Dear Brothers and Sisters,
 
We have two fun events at FOE 871 this weekend. 
 
On Friday, October 13, we're serving fried fish, french fries and coleslaw for $15 from 5:30-7:30  Let us know if you can help set up, serve meals, or clean up. 
 
Sunday, October 15, is Anniversar "Old Timers" Day.  The reception starts at 12:00 with appetizers and beverages.  The ceremony begins at 1:00 where brothers and sisters who have hit significant anniversaries will receive pins for 5-50 years of membership.  The State Worthy President  and State Ladies Auxiliary President will be present.  Lunch follows the ceremony.  All members are encouraged to attend.

Help needed this weekend!

Dear Brothers and Sisters,
 
We need more people to help us with our Friday night dinner and Sunday morning breakfast. Remember our only paid staff are the bartenders.   As a member organization, we depend on everyone to donate a little of their time in order to hold the events we all enjoy.  Otherwise we will have to cancel them.
 
Please look at your schedule and see where you can help. Volunteering is a great way to meet and get to know your Eagle brothers and sisters!

Dear Brothers and Sisters,
 
Plan on spending a lot of time at the Rathskeller this week enjoying good food and good friends.
 
On Friday, October 6, from 5:30-7:30 we will be serving our delicious 14-ounce ribeye steak dinner with baked potato, tossed salad, and more for just $25.  Get together with a friend and sign up for an one-hour work shift setting up, delivering meals, or cleaning up.
 
Come back on Sunday, October 8, from 9:00-11:00 for a great Bloody Mary breakfast.  You get eggs and pancakes cooked to order along with a long list of side dishes for $12.  Sides include bacon, sausage, hash browns, creamed chipped beef, sausage gravy, grits, scrapple, biscuits, and puffs.
 
***We really need folks to step up to the plate Sunday because we will be without our superstar volunteers, Dwight Barnes and Barbara Peyton.  Please follow this link to set up tables, deliver meals, or wash dishes.
